Christians and thousands of people in Mexico City are in desperate need of help. The headlines on the news around the globe are only a small indication of the devastation this earthquake has caused and the desperation the people are feeling.
As of September 21st: The 7.1 magnitude earthquake has claimed the lives of 225 people, the majority being in Mexico City, including schoolchildren. At the moment, many people are still looking for survivors from the collapsed buildings where many are feared to be trapped. Those who have been rescued need water, food, and medical attention.
Unfortunately, to us this is more than words printed on a newspaper or read on a mobile device – it is reality. Here in San Luis de la Paz the quake was also felt. The hospital where our son Elliot was born less than five months ago had to be evacuated due to the earthquake sensors triggering the alarm. A number of mothers gave birth in the hospital parking lot where babies were brought into the world beneath bed sheets held up to shield these precious newborns from the sun.
Becky and I have teamed up with local churches, both here and in Mexico City, and our missionary partners to send aid to people who are in need of medical attention and those who have lost everything.
Following is a list of needed items and ways you can help:
BOTTLED WATER, RICE, BEANS, PASTA, TUNA, SUGAR, SALT, etc
TOILET PAPER, SANITARY PADS, DIAPERS for babies and adults, etc.
FIRST AID KITS WITH RE-HYDRATION SOLUTIONS AND PAIN RELIEF MEDICINE
DIGGING TOOLS – SHOVELS, SPADES, PICKS, etc.
Our goal is to help at least 2,000 people.
If you would like to make a donation to the relief efforts, you can give to purchase any of the aid items above, being confident that the gifts will reach the areas where they are needed most. The average aid item we will be sending costs less than $5. Your donations will also help us send trained people to help counsel the survivors.
Finally, would you please keep the people of Mexico in your prayers?
1. PRAY for those who are hurt physically and need medical treatment and aid.
2. PRAY for the people who have lost their loved ones.
3. PRAY for Mexico as a whole. This is the second earthquake to hit here in a matter of weeks.
4. PRAY that the church would arise at this time and truly show Jesus’ love for their neighbors.
5. PRAY for the Vida team and our partners who are working hard to take aid to those affected.
Yours in Him,
Donald and Becky
